CHIGAGO (April 25, 2023) – Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) is pleased to announce a team win at the annual Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC). The AIM Chicago team competed at AMC last week and outperformed all other teams in their category, taking home the award for the American Airlines APU Starter event. An Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) allows an aircraft to operate autonomously without reliance on ground support equipment.
The Aerospace Maintenance Competition is held annually in conjunction with Aviation Week Network’s MRO Americas. The 2023 event took place at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Teams representing educational institutions, commercial airlines, repair and manufacturing companies, general aviation and space compete to learn from each other and see who can complete a variety of aerospace maintenance tasks the fastest and with the most precision. The competition consisted of twenty-six total events, completed by eighty-four teams of competitors.
Says Aviation Institute of Maintenance Team Captain, Adela Spezzia, “All teams brought their A-game this year and we are so grateful to have been given the opportunity to compete alongside the best of the best. For the American Airlines APU Starter event, fast is better. I could not have asked for a better team to lead to AMC this year.”
The AIM Chicago team was sponsored by American Airlines and trained with an American Airlines mechanic once a week to prepare for the competition. All competitors were first-time participants at the AMC.
Said Andrew Tepoele, American Airlines mechanic and team trainer, “It was an honor to be a part of the first team from Aviation Institute of Maintenance – Chicago in the 2023 Aerospace Maintenance Competition. The drive, dedication, enthusiasm, and teamwork of this team makes me proud to be a part of this amazing group of future aircraft maintenance technicians. Thank you, Team AIM Chicago, for giving me this time to get to know you and spend time with you – it was unforgettable!”
