FREMONT, Calif. (May 14, 2024) – Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) is pleased to announce the generous donation of a CF6-6 jet engine from FedEx, a leading global logistics company. The engine, formerly utilized on the DC-10 cargo transport aircraft in FedEx’s fleet, was delivered to AIM’s Fremont campus on May 3rd, 2024.
As FedEx transitions to more modern aircraft, the retirement of the DC-10s presents a unique opportunity for educational institutions like the Aviation Institute of Maintenance to benefit from the donation of vital training equipment. The CF6-6 engine will play a pivotal role in enhancing the institute’s training offerings for aspiring Aviation Maintenance Technicians, providing them with hands-on experience and exposure to real-world aviation technology.
“We are immensely grateful to FedEx for their dedication to education and this invaluable contribution to our institution,” said Josh Smith, Campus Executive Director. “This donation signifies a strong partnership between industry leaders and educational institutions, working together to foster talent and innovation in aviation maintenance.”
Aviation Institute of Maintenance, located in Fremont, part of the greater San Francisco Bay area, offers Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 147 aviation maintenance training programs. With the addition of the CF6-6 engine, AIM reaffirms its commitment to preparing students for careers in the aviation industry. The CF6-6 will enrich the learning experience of current students and empower future generations of aviation professionals with the skills and expertise needed to excel in their careers.
Aviation Institute of Maintenance looks forward to integrating the CF6-6 engine into its curriculum and believes that this partnership with FedEx will pave the way for a brighter future for aspiring aviation professionals.
