CHICAGO (April 17, 2024) – Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) is proud to announce the outstanding achievement of its students in the Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC) held in Chicago last week. One of two teams competing from AIM’s Chicago campus secured the top score among school teams in the AV-DEC Antenna Gasket Installation event. Under the guidance of Coach Victor Garcia, students Raul Cancino, Szymon Lysek, Jose Aquino, Faith Rono, and Blake Simone displayed exceptional skill and dedication, reflecting their commitment to excellence in their training.
This success follows a series of supportive initiatives, including American Airlines’ generous donation of $1,000 scholarships to six AIM Chicago students. Prior to the competition, the students celebrated receipt of scholarship checks with invaluable insights from Evita “Evie” Garces, Vice President of Line Maintenance, during a ceremony and reception at the campus at 3711 S. Ashland Avenue in Chicago’s southside.
Three teams from two AIM campuses participated in the AMC, bolstered by sponsorship from American Airlines and United Airlines. The competition served as a platform for maintenance professionals, both current and aspiring, to demonstrate their knowledge and measure their abilities against peers nationwide. With events designed to assess the technical skills and knowledge essential for aviation maintenance technicians, teams competed across categories including Commercial Airlines, General Aviation, Military, Repair and Manufacturing, School, and Space.
“Congratulations to our three competing teams for their hard work and camaraderie. Thank you, American Airlines and United Airlines, for your continued support and sponsorship. Your support fueled our teams’ commitment to their training for the competition, but also for their future as aviation maintenance technicians,” said Dr. Joel English, President of Aviation Institute of Maintenance.
AIM extends heartfelt congratulations to the student winners and appreciation to its industry partners and sponsors, namely American Airlines and United Airlines.
