Aviation Maintenance Technician Training Now Available for High School Students in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools

Aviation Institute of Maintenance, Charlotte, NC, Press Releases

CHARLOTTE (July 26, 2023) – Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) in partnership with American Airlines has launched a dual enrollment program for high school students attending Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS). This program offers rising Juniors and Seniors the opportunity to receive Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) training as part of their high school program, at no cost to the school system, students, or their families.

High school students and their families are invited to attend an open house on July 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at 7421 E Independence Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28227. This event will provide detailed information about the program, including curriculum, admission requirements, and career prospects. Students will be able to meet instructors and current American Airlines officials, who will share their experiences and discuss careers in aviation.

Students within the dual enrollment program will complete up to four courses in the Aviation Maintenance Technician program during high school. For students who choose to pursue the full AMT program after high school, the dual enrollment program will accelerate their training time by 5 months, and up to 19 credits will transfer into the AIM program.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to enjoy recruiting benefits that may lead to employment with American Airlines and its wholly owned regional carriers, Piedmont and PSA Airlines, as well as access to the airlines’ maintenance facilities and team members through engagement opportunities.
