VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Jan. 9, 2023) – Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM), Centura College, and Tidewater Tech are entering 2023 with a bang as Career Education Review (CER) names Executive Vice President Dr. Joel English as a recipient of its Top 20 People Changing Career Education list – highlighting Dr. English’s incredible work in the postsecondary career education sector.
Dr. English was previously an Assistant Professor of English at Old Dominion University, and he joined the school system in 2003 as a campus Executive Director. He has left his mark not only on the twenty campuses within the organization, but also on the postsecondary education community as a whole. Dr. English has extensive experience in postsecondary education but has found his passion in trade and career schools. Says Dr. English, “I am proud of the progress that my colleagues at AIM, Centura College, and Tidewater Tech have made in Virginia and throughout the country, demonstrating that skilled trades training is a viable option for students looking for a meaningful career path. A traditional 4-year degree program is the right pathway for some, but it is not the only option after high school. For so many students, a professional certification program directed toward a specific career is the right higher education option.”
CER, a publication of Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU), has identified the top thinkers, leaders, and innovators in career education today to honor their contributions to making postsecondary education better. Selected by a committee of peers, this year’s recipients represent a diverse cross-section of schools and programs in the career education community. The winners were profiled in the 2022 Winter Issue of CER, available to all CECU members and CER subscribers.
“It is important to highlight the work being done by these diverse leaders,” said Jenny Faubert, Editor of CER. “This roster of futurists, innovators, and change agents captures the spirit of tomorrow’s postsecondary career education leaders—those who have already moved the needle and whose work will help shape the future path of the sector.”
Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU) is the national association serving the proprietary higher education sector.
