CHICAGO (Nov. 21, 2022) – U.S. Transportation Secretary, Pete Buttigieg, was greeted this afternoon by a group of students, faculty, and staff at Aviation Institute of Maintenance’s Chicago campus. Secretary Buttigieg joined American Airlines CEO, Robert Isom, to see the next generation of aviation maintenance technicians being trained to join the workforce.
The visit comes weeks after AIM announced a partnership with American Airlines to create a pipeline for new talent in aviation maintenance. This partnership guarantees top students graduating from AIM Chicago an interview, among other support opportunities provided by American Airline. AIM and its industry partners are working together to meet the demands of the workforce, specifically in the aviation sector.
Says Dr. Joel English, Executive Vice President for AIM, “We are happy to have Secretary Buttigieg at one of our AIM campuses. We understand that air transport is a huge part of how people and essential items move throughout our country, and we are pleased to showcase our efforts to train the future aviation workforce to meet the demands of the industry.”
With the dire need for aviation maintenance technicians in consideration, the Institute is happy to host visitors who share the vision of how essential workforce development is to the future of America.
Pete Buttigieg has been in office under the Biden administration since February 2021. He has worked to improve America’s infrastructure, transportation, and workforce through new policy, and other mediums aimed towards change for minority communities.
