Aviation Institute of Maintenance’s (AIM) Norfolk campus has partnered with Piedmont Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines, to help combat the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) shortage. On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, the Norfolk campus of Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) held an unveiling of an original mural, painted by local artist John Hickey. John Hickey is a Norfolk native dedicated to creating murals around Hampton Roads, but primarily focuses on the City of Norfolk. John’s work is admired all around the Hampton Roads region in places like the Neon District, a local pharmacy, and Yorgo’s Bageldashery. (March 13, 2023) - Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) is one of eleven schools in receipt of a total of $5 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to help attract and train students for careers as aviation maintenance technicians. Charles E. Taylor Master Mechanic Award

The Charles E. Taylor Master Mechanic Award is presented by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This award is presented to mechanics with both 50 years in aviation maintenance and 30 years FAA certified. Charles E. Taylor built the first aircraft engine used by the Wright Brothers in 1903.
